I have a bit of a crush on all things Anthropologie. Maybe it's the lure of beautiful, expensive things, or the unique stylings--slightly nostalgic yet trendy and romantic all the same. Whatever it is, I find myself inspired to replicate the embellishments and cuts of the clothing. I'm on a budget, you see. After eight months of unemployment, I'm attempting to breath life into a slightly tired wardrobe without emptying my already feather-light porte-monnaie.
This first refashion involves so few ingredients it makes me giddy to look back at the results. It was so simple to put together. I found two spools of vintage trim (one pink, one blue) at an antique store for a few dollars each--they've since found a new home in my ever-growing collection of trim and are first to be used in my series of refashions.
Here's the how-to...
I started with a plain white tank top (look for them at craft stores or elsewhere for under $5). From there, I took pre-washed sections of the vintage trim and pinned them to the tank; this is where you can get creative with the placement, layering and amount of trim you use. I chose to use the inherent scallops of the trim to my advantage; I cut the scallops into individual pieces for easier placement along the neckline and ended up with three overlapping layers.
Next, I used some uncut scraps from the trim and stitched them into little flowers using a button in the center to hold the shape and also allow me a nicely finished way to attach them to the garment. Voila! This formerly boring tank top is now much more feminine and ready for some fun summer outings!
